Advent Calendar [Tree]

Yup, it's November 28th and my Advent Calendar [tree] is D.O.N.E.!!
I'm really looking forward to this Advent Calendar [tree]. Each day there's a little [and I mean little!] gift and a scripture for the kids to read so that we can focus on the real meaning of this awesome time of year.

Here's how it turned out...

I was inspired by all kinds of great calendars [click here if you want to be inspired too!], but in the end I fell in love with these two ideas:

Then, to top off my tree I remembered this brown paper bag flower tutorial [it was really easy!].

I'm super happy with the way the Advent Calendar [tree!] turned out, and the entire project- gifts and all- only cost around $25.

Each gift has a little scripture in it, and I plan on taping those scriptures back to the tree so that it's not left bare as the month progresses. Plus, I'm thinking I we could draw decorations on the tree as we go to keep it fun and interesting.

Do you like this idea, but don't have a big chalkboard? Click here to see how I made this one [it only cost $35 to make!!]. Or, you could always use craft paper like in the photo above! I'm super excited for the kids to see it... I love Christmas :)

Monday [P]inspiration: Advent Calendar Ideas

Hello! Today I'm looking at Advent Calendars... every single year I think, "Hey- I should make an advent calendar..." Then I realize that it's already December 4th. [Oops] Nevertheless, I am determined to make one this year- so today's post is really to remind myself to get started [now] and to get myself inspired [although I certainly hope some inspiration rubs off on you too!!].

So simple. A string, clips and cute envelops... surely I could make this happen by December 1st ;)

via

An envelop tree! So creative and still easy. Love it!
via

Love this idea as well. Those cute little packages would be soooo much fun to open everyday, wouldn't they?!
via

Aren't these tiny buckets too cute? I really like the branches as well... getting lots of ideas!
via
 Another super creative idea!
via
Alright... so this idea isn't overly fancy, but I've included it for one reason: it shows how kids don't really care what it looks like. I recognize that if I make this calendar beautiful, I'm doing that part for myself because the kiddos just love the excitement :)

Monday [P]inspiration: Herringbone Patterns

Hello! Today I'm looking at great ways to incorporate a herringbone pattern into any room. Personally, I love this pattern... while the chevron pattern is trendy and fun, the herringbone is a timeless classic!
This wooden floor is amazing. The whole room is, really!

via

Another great example of a herringbone pattern floor, but this one is tile. So timeless and beautiful, I especially love the dark tile and white grout combination!
via

Isn't this a gorgeous coffee table?!
via

This herringbone pattern looks beautiful in a white marble back splash.

via

Not ready to invest in marble... use paint! What an inexpensive way to make a huge impact.

Here is a great idea for DIY artwork, be sure to check it out :)

Aaaand here's another DIY project for ya.' This stunning wood floor was made using old wood pallets!! Can you believe it?! Gorgeous.

Monday [P]inspiration: Autumn Table Settings

Today I'm getting inspired to set a beautiful autumn table. Here are many, many great ideas to inspire you as well this season!

I'm a big fan of serving food buffet style, and this is an example of how beautifully it can be done! Love the pumpkins.
via
Simple ideas that look so, so pretty!

via

These pumpkin candle centerpieces are too cute and totally do-able!
via

Love the idea of using salvaged wood right down the center of the table... just make sure to give it a good scrubbin' first ;)

via

No, this is technically not on a table, but I love the feathers and aged silver... so beautiful and it could easily be adapted to look great as a centerpiece.
via

Aren't these place cards so simple and adorable?! I just love these...
via
This is a great natural table scape. The pumpkins in a birdcage is quite clever and the Indian corn in plain glass containers look brilliant!

via

Love it all. Yup, every bit of this table :)

via

I just had to include this flower arrangement. It is stunning. The fruit and flowers are just so, beautiful and the simple color palette is perfection!
