Monday [P]inspiration: DIY Branch Decor Ideas

Go out and gather your newly exposed branches folks, 'cuz we've got some awesome DIY ideas today! These are all crazy good projects that cost next to nothing... so go out for a little nature walk, and return home with all the branches you can find ;)
Isn't this art made from branches just gorgeous? Yeaaaa. I can do that [I think...]
via

Not feeling quite that brave? Well, here's an idea that anyone can do: all you need is a coffee can, glue, [fairly] straight twigs and a bit of ribbon/raffia/etc.
via

Now isn't this just the cutest centerpiece?! I just love the colors and the little birds... too cute and super, super easy!
via

This branch is holding some totally awesome origami birds. Very natural and yet it feels super contemporary. Wouldn't this be so cute in a little girl's room?
via

Hula hoop + grapevines + lights = fabulous idea. Go check out the details on how to make one for yourself!

via

These branches and butterflies look absolutely fabulous... it's a genius idea that looks super expensive!
via

Oh... how'd this one make it in?! Wow- it's a branch from a project right here at Salvage Savvy ;) If you missed it last Christmas you should check it out [pssst: it's one of my favorites!].

Hurricane Sandy: Sending out Prayers

Sometimes there's a ton of "hype" about a storm and it ends up being very minor.... once in a while it turns out to be even worse than anyone imagined. Who knows what will transpire here, but I encourage you to take a moment to pray that this one ends up being the former, and that all those who find themselves in its path will find safety.  thanks :)

Monday [P]inspiration: Farmhouse Tables

Lately I've found myself pinning more and more farmhouse tables. I'm loving these tables because they are so diverse: these tables look stunning whether they are paired with elegant, rustic, shabby chic or even contemporary decor. Today I'm not commenting on each photo... just enjoy all of these gorgeous dining spaces with various table... p.s. the last post is an AMAZING DIY table from Shanty 2 Chic. [I soooo want to make one... wonder what Super Hero Hubby will say?!]

Words of Wisdom: Doing Good

"The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway. For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway."—Mother Teresa

Forgive me Father, for I [almost] sinned [maybe]

So, here it is.  The dresser that has sat in my garage [much to Super Hero Hubby’s dismay] all summer [ok, all spring too… and most of winter]. It’s not in terrible shape, but I really wanted to take it from, “Yea, it’s a nice dresser,” to “WOW!”

After much thought [which got me nowhere], I finally became inspired by this dresser from Paint in My Hair and set forth upon my plan.

via

I went out and purchased my paint:

I took out all of the drawers and even removed the hardware [which was a total pain…]. Now, finally... after almost a year, my dresser was all ready for its big transformation!

Then... as I pulled the dresser out and away from the wall to get it onto my dropclothththth… there it was: stamped right onto the back of the dresser was my warning. 18th Century. Mahogany. Darn. [I have no idea what No. 348 means... but I'm sure that's something very special and important to ;) ]

Suddenly I was filled with guilt and condemnation. Why do those words hold such power over paint?! It just felt wrong now.
So. There you have it. I just couldn’t do it.
Now I’ve got to get the hardware back onto my drawers [grrrrr] and I guess I’ll just sell it as is on Craigslist.
But I’m curious… would you have painted it? [And be honest because you’ll find no judgement here… trust me, I’m still not entirely convinced that I shouldn’t have gone ahead and painted it anyway…]

Monday [P]inspiration: Halloween Edition!

Alright, so here are my favorite Halloween ideas from Pinterest this season! If you recall from last year, I'm not into icky scary stuff... so all of these are clever ideas that are fun and won't cause children [or adults like me...] to run away screaming!
This is so, so [so] cute. I didn't decorate at all this fall [you know, since we're selling the house and all], but someday I really want to do this!
via

This is just perfect... spooky meets elegant! These "ghosts" are actually made with chicken wire, check out the website to see how you can make them!
via

Carved pumpkins never looked so chic! This is perfect for a Halloween party too-  they would certainly make it easy for guests to spot your address. Or... what about carving B-O-O, that would be cute too!
via

Lovin' this white, silver and black Halloween vignette. So cute.
via

Ok, this is the CUTEST little costume! I just had to include it, because it gives me all kinds of ideas for my little gal.

via

Such a clever idea for any party. Why haven't I ever thought of this?!

via

I just had to show this house. WOW! It doesn't really look like a ton of work, as far as decorating goes, but it makes a huge impact. This is so cool!

Hope you enjoyed these ideas, have a safe and happy Halloween!

Words of Wisdom: Being Different

While I don't actually laugh at people for being "the same," I do like this saying. In a world where we often feel the need to "fit in" I've just never been drawn to the typical path of my peers. However, as I get older I realize that being different really is wonderful.
And guess what else I've learned- even those whom I assume to be "normal" probably feel just as different as I do... so my goal is to just go ahead and extend grace to everyone :)

I'm a DIY Dropout

Have you noticed that my DIY projects have become few and far between? [Yes. Yes- you have.] Well, I am trying to make it back [I really am], but I want to share with my lovely readers [ and trust me, if you’ve read this far into one of my non-DIY posts then you truly are a lovely reader!] what has caused me to become a DIY dropout: [don’t worry, I’ll keep it brief]

1. Our house is on the market. Yup. We’re selling it [eeek!]. I’m both excited and nervous. I love our home, but we [that is... myself and my Super Hero Hubby] just feel that it’s time to move. As a result, I spent all summer doing a million of those boring little home projects that ya gotta do to get your home listed. They just didn’t feel blog-worthy, but desperately needed to happen!

2. Did you know that it’s physically impossible to complete [or even start] a DIY project and keep your home perfectly clean and ready for a showing?! It’s a scientific fact. Seriously. Google it [hopefully it will refer you to this post and I will be proved correct ;)].

3. Major life changes tend to zap one’s creativity. I stared at a dresser all summer and had zero inspiration. Nada. Nuthin’. It's sad, really.

4. My design assistant takes waaaay fewer naps these days. Oh, and she’s walking now. And running. And climbing. And grabbing everything [all. the. time.]. And I just adore her, so it’s ok- but there's not a lotta painting happening!

However, the good news is that I am determined to do a new project this week [despite all of those completely valid points I just shared] so... “I’ll be back.” [insert cheesy Arnold Schwarzenegger accent here. Or on second thought- never mind, don’t.]

Monday [P]inspiration: DIY Organization ideas

As a blogger, am I allowed to write a post that has nothing to do with autumn this time of year?  Just checking [since that's all I'm seeing out there these days...]. If you are upset about my lack of fallish-ness, then please re-read last week's Monday [P]inspiration post and you'll be all-good. BUT, if you're ready to see something different- then you are in for a treat because these are mind-blowing DIY organizational ideas. Golden Stuff here... enjoy!

Get those cleaning products organized... here are all kinds of excellent ideas whether your space is small or large!
via

Need to contain all of those awkward small cans in the pantry? Use a magazine rack!

via
This armoire is seriously working overtime!! What a great idea for any lady who has a
lot of "stuff" and wants it all at her finger tips- brilliant.
via

Have you seen these old metal file cabinets for like $3 at a garage sale because no one knows what to do with them [and they're too big to throw away!]? Here's an amazing idea that virtually everyone can do [and needs to do]!!
via

Broom Mounts = Spice rack. So, so smart!

Use hooks in your cabinet to keep those pots organized and easily accessible. I soooo need something like this...

Or- here's another idea. Stack 'em up! These can be purchased at The Container Store, and are a really great idea too.
